Weekend Edition, 2/14/10
In honor of Valentine’s Day, the GC4K crew posts a list of romantic comics for the 12-to-18 crowd… Melinda Beasi shares her thoughts on volume three of 13th Boy… Michelle Smith and Brigid Alverson wrap up the first Moveable Manga Feast with thoughtful reviews of Sexy Voice and Robo… Danielle Leigh marks her second anniversary as a manga reviewer for Comics Should Be Good by relating a back story — hers, to be exact… at Heart of Manga, Laura awards three (out of five) hearts to the latest volume of Black Bird… and Noah Berlatsky picks up Manhwa 100 and is disappointed to discover that it is, in fact, a poorly edited catalog, not a comprehensive introduction to Korean comics. I agree whole-heartedly with his assessment, BTW, as my review from February 2009 attests.
Two other announcements of regional interest. First, Midtown Comics will be discounting all graphic novels and manga by 40% now through February 19th. The catch? That discount is only available at their Manhattan stores, not their website. Second, Comicopia is sponsoring a contest: design a new logo for this Boston-based business and win a $500 gift certificate. Click here for details. (You’ll need to scroll down the page.)
