The Shipping News, 7/15/09

This week’s shipping list resembles a picked-over salad bar: yes, there are garbanzo beans and broccoli sprouts in abundance, but some of the more basic and appealing items — peppers, carrots, tomatoes — are in short supply. Yaoi fans will make out best this week (if they’ll excuse the pun), with several new titles from BLU Manga and DMP, including Loudest Whisper: Uwasa no Futari (BLU Manga), a coming-of-age story about a pair of close friends; Ludwig II (DMP), a nineteenth century costume drama by You Higuri; and Shining Moon (DMP), a story about a male prostitute who’s obsessed with a “seemingly pure and righteous salary man.” (DMP’s words, not mine.) Other new arrivals include Angelic Runes (DMP), a fantasy-adventure about a mysterious pair of twins; It Takes a Wizard (Seven Seas Entertainment), an OEL that sounds like a mash-up of Escape from New York and Dragonsong; and the latest volumes of From Eroica With Love (CMX), InuYasha (VIZ), and Pet Shop of Horrors: Tokyo (Tokyopop). Full list below.

  • Pet Shop of Horrors is reason enough to make sure I head to the book store ASAP this week. I also recommend Ludwig II to readers; I really enjoyed it. Thrilled to see the second volume of Train*Train is out so soon as well. The first was a really fun read :)

  • I’m also glad that Tokyopop didn’t axe Pet Shop of Horrors; it’s one of the few TP titles that I’m actively reading and collecting, and if it had met the same fate as Suppli and Qwan, I would have been a very unhappy camper.

And I second your recommendation of Ludwig II. What’s not to like about beautiful costumes, beautiful characters, and over-the-top plot lines that make a telenovela look staid in comparison, I ask?
