The Shipping News, 7/1/09

29 June 2009 2 Comments

Another week, another short shipping list. Only two new titles make their debut on Wednesday. The first is Broken Blade (CMX), a fantasy about a young soldier who finds his calling when he discovers an “ancient battle suit” that only he can operate, and the second is The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Bandai Entertainment), a one-volume adaptation of the 2006 film. The week’s other notable arrival is volume nine of Emma (CMX), Kaoru Mori’s delightful Victorian soap opera. As with the previous installment, volume nine focuses on Emma’s supporting characters, this time offering an intimate look at the Merediths (the titular character’s German employers) and revealing how, exactly, William and Hakim met. If none of these titles entice, you’ll find plenty of swordfighting in the sixth installment of The Yagyu Ninja Scrolls: Revenge of the Hori Clan (Del Rey) and lots of slapstick humor in the eighth installment of Ai Morinaga’s goofy comedy My Heavenly Hockey Club (Del Rey). Go on, groan. That joke wrote itself.
